5 Nice Things

1. Jaja laughs with pleasure at her thoughts sometimes before she talks. It's very cute.

2. I wanted an adventure so I put on roller blades and drank boozed-up hot chocolate while making cookies and listening to music. I skated round and round the kitchen table. This led to the brilliant idea for a summer party of wearing rollerblades and making ice cream sundaes.

3. I finished a page of logic exercises. I don't know whether it counts as pleasure, but it was highly satisfying.

4. I received a letter today. It was addressed to Baroness. I am a baronness :)

5. In the morning I dreamed I was singing with an alien. I woke up with the song still in my head.

Musica!

1. Evelyn Glennie was amazing and she padded around barefoot on the stage which was especially fantastic

2. Bendo and Sha-Sha both showed up in the nick of time but enjoyed it tremendously and said they'd come again!

3. Your two extra seats were so close to mine! Such a lovely coincidence

4. The last piece was so so so so good. And new to me, which is always exciting.

5. I didn't fall asleep at the symphony! For the first time ever!

Winter Decadence

1. Mark brought me chocolate bars and hot chocolate for an unexplained reason. Yum. It was also easy to entice him to share in the chocolate eating. Company is nice.

2. When I told Faerie that Code Yeller had given me hot chocolate, she said, "Oh! For your green coat!"

3. The conductor danced on his podium, with swaying hips, fluttering hands and great sweeping leaps of arms and legs.

4. When I showed up at the restaurant to meet Dad for his retirement lunch I was rather nervously surprised to see many of his co-workers sitting around the table. They turned out to be very nice, pleasantly and companionably argumentative, and easy to talk to. I had a highly enjoyable time.

5. I helped push a car out of snowbank, which I think is fun.

Nice Things About Today (Feels Like A Million)

1. The weather! omigosh, I love snow.
2. I snuggled with Kryptonite this morning, and whenever he shifted position I would sleepily massage where my hand was resting (side/back/chest/arm). He said he liked how I do that, because I am like a cat, digging in.
3. As I studied at the university someone played Beethoven on a piano in a nearby room. Their playing was imperfect - it came in stop and starts - but I knew the piece, and it was beautiful.
4. Fabbalous wrote me a card thanking me for the christmas present I gave her, she said she liked it and that she misses our thursday playdates. I feel honoured. :)
5. There were two letters from Kippen lying on my bed. One to be opened tomorrow, and one the day after, I am very excited!

Today is a day of quotes and happy findings.

1. From The Year of Living Biblically by A. J. Jacobs I like the quote, "I have two heads, two sets of eyes, two moral compasses. They're battling for supremacy. Maybe one will win – or maybe I can keep both. A friend of mine said we shouldn't underestimate people's ability to hold totally contradictory opinions and be just fine with it. It's a uniquely human trait, like speech and blushing."

2. A second quote I liked from a blog "I can't help it, every time I feel sad I want to fall in love." ~Jess.

3. I like that when I'm feeling grumpy I can do google searches for images of baby bunnies. Puts me in a better mood in no time.

4. I ran into a girl from my tkd class as I was walking home, and she gave me marzipan chocolate as we chatted. Random gifts of chocolate are always a good thing. As are bubbly conversations.

5. The house smelled amazing again as I arrived home. This time roasted vegetable deep pink from beets were cooking. More yumminess. I read my mummy a chapter of Howl's Moving Castle as she cheffed.

4 Nice Things of Today, and 1 Enduring Nice Thing of Time Past

1. Some rich lady started a book store for underprivileged children (as well as privileged children and adults who like children's books). It has oriental carpets and cosy niche's for them to read and volunteers to come in and help them read or to read to them. Also if the children find a book they really like they get it stamped and can take it home, and (I think) it's theirs for keeps. It's called The Book Bank.

2. I had my hair coloured. I now have honey and tawny coloured hair with a fringe of bright pink bangs, because the lion in the wizard of oz had a pink bow in his hair. As my colourist said, I think I can guarantee that there's no one in the city who looks like you now. (btw, this is my favorite picture of a cowardly lion)

3. I ate a cookie from second cup while reading my book and having my hair bleached. It was supremely yummy.

4. I came home and the house smelled amazing. Sweet potato pie in the oven.

5. I like Martin Luther King Jr. How long? Not long!

Bliss Sandwich

1. I snuggled with a cat, a dog, and a Kippen all on the same couch tonight. It was lovely! Franny (the cat) spooned with me, and Clare (the dog) fell over backwards onto me for a tummy rub. I loved the company, especially as I was feeling ill.

2. Madmoiselle-the-owner stopped by and gave me a lift home and a bunch of pink and purpley-pink carnations. I like them en masse, the look so ruffly and happy.

3.My azalea tree is still blooming, it looks gorgeous.

Little Things...

I love when you call a customer service department and the person identifies themself by name but uses a title, ie. "Hi, this is Mrs. Suleyman, how may I help you?"

Although it does make one wonder how such properly mannered people end up working in a call centre

7 Nice Things About Today

1. I saw a sign par excellance on campus. It said: DO YOU GET LONELY TONIGHT? Adopt a kitten!

2. My hair colourist's theme for her creative show is the wizard of oz. I am going to be the cowardly lion.

3. I got invited to the Vidal Sassoon christmas party at Rasputin's Vodka Bar. I feel flattered, and I like the name of the bar :)

4. I got a hair cut! My head is tidy again!

5. I ate nachos with salsa and cheese bubbled into melty goodness.

6. Someone drew a happy face on the male silhouette sign for the men's bathroom at my dad's work.

7. A streetcar came as soon as I got to the stop to go home. It was warm and speedy.

Only in my dreams

I love dreams in which I can do things that I can't in real life...

Who knew I was such a proficient subconcious swimmer, sailor, driver, bear-tamer?

A few days worth of nice

Am finally starting to officially feel better after the weekend of sick, YAY!

Had a good first step towards learning to drive on Saturday, 1st driving lesson and I didn’t suck. Although I need to work on my smooth acceleration (still don’t think it was really my fault, stupid Yaris)

Liebchen made delicious boeuf bourguignon on Sunday and took care of me very nicely while I was sick.

Late Night Encounter

A man walked along philosophers lane singing.

ooo, tummy hurts from laughing

I almost ate my sweater trying not to laugh too loudly (dinner party going on downstairs) while reading cake wrecks. Go, and do thou likewise.

Then I started laughing at the arm wriggle.

Mummy made some delicious smelling food. It filled the house first warm and spicy then citrusy and fresh, with leafy overtones... and then it tasted very yummy. May I recommend red cabbage cooked with onion and apple and lemon and cloves?

The weather! OMG it's gorgeous. Why am I not a puppy and frolicking?

I was cutting up old roses that had dried up in their vase, only to find that some of them had sprouted. I put them in a pot of dirt, we shall see what happens...

5 Nice Things

1. I found two comics that reminded me of you. They both made me laugh.

2. I'm still in my pajama bottoms at the end of the day, it's very cosy.

3. Mummy brought home chocolate. A blessing on a grumbly day.

4. I learned of the existence of neutrinos; subatomic particles so tiny and fast they typically pass through the earth without bumping into anything. Millions are passing through me at this very moment. Makes me feel quite insubstantial... and for my next trick I will walk through walls.

5. chickadees are cute.

nice things

1. Do you remember this song from the 80s? I like the memories, and the little dances they do in their sweaters in the background.

2. I was watching a boy with spiked hair chew gum on the subway this morning, and I could see the spikes moving as his scalp moved as he chewed. It was fascinating.

3. I quite approve of this comic. From here.

4. I read Blink by Malcolm Gladwell. Retelling the story at the end that I really want to relate will take a while, but there are lots of bits in that I liked and made me THINK. I highly recommend it.

5. Ravioli are yummy. I had some.

'magination 'n 'mages make me happy

  1. I started off the day with a lovely text exchange in a very boring class.
me: Help! My prof sounds like nails on a chalkboard and has the charisma of a damp rag.
kippen: Oh no! Can you close your eyes and imagine him/her as some sort of cartoon character?
me: I'm picturing her as a Gilda Radner character.
kippen: Lol! Do you think she could be a parakeet?
me: Lol! yes! definitely a parrot. with amnesia.
A bit like Dory in Finding Nemo.
kippen: Oh! See now I can't help but thinking that she's a little bit adorable.

  2. The piano player at the mozart performance pounded on the keys so forcefully that at times they seemed to repel him backwards like an electric shock. It was profound drama and he battled and wrestled that piano to the finish.

-23 is definitely not a blessing...

Thankfully other things today were!

1. Started the day by watching my liebchen giggling in his sleep again.
2. Tracked down the email address of my friend's dad and sent him a message to forward on to my long lost childhood friend
3. Made dinner from scratch using no recipes and it turned out amazingly well
4. Finally remembered the name of the restaurant in San Francisco that I've never stopped dreaming about

Raise Your Voice In Song!

1. Jaja and I spent the evening listening to Nick Pitera.

Jaja thinks he should be knighted, and we're going to mail him our panties. We're in love!

2. When Long Duc Dong and I were watching Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, there is a scene where Indiana sits on the top of a cliff with a very beautiful background of the sky at dusk. Long Duc Dong leaned over and asked if it reminded me of that bit in alladin when (and he began to sing) "rif raf, street rat, I don't buy that. If only they'd look closer! Would they see a poor boy, no siree, they'd find out there's so much more to me."

Social Skillz

I talked to people! strangers even!
A group of three girls with names that are hard to pronounce (need practice) and one which failed to enter my brain completely.
Some boy who keeps showing up in my classes, and whose name I don't know either.
I felt proud.

and you posted! so cool! *does small dance with much clapping of hands*
Today was sadly lacking in good things but I think I found a few...

1. I played Scrabble avec Maman and came as close to beating her as I have in a long time (my best words of the game were axiom and ursine)
2. We had an awesome dinner of tilapia, risotto, broccoli and corn on the cob and ate it in front of the fireplace with purring and snoring cat and dog at our feet
3. I ended my night with a companionable phone call that included giggling, silliness and bonding

Oasis

I had a two and a half hour bath, in which I read a chapter of my textbook, my headache twinges dissipated, I floated serenely, and turned into a raisin. It was lovely.

Brand New Day

So, it's the new year,
and I find I still want to count the good things going on around me...

Here's one for today:
1. Anne Hathaway said on performing love scenes with Steve Carell in Get Smart (2008), "Making out with him is like the yummiest lollipop. Dipped in sunshine. And wrapped around in a masculine wrapper."
I want someone to say that about me... without the masculine wrapper bit :)
