I made mini-cakes!

I was testing out whether I could make little cakes in tiny canned fruit tins - I could! and they grew three sizes taller and had poofy domed tops. I also wanted to try making pineapple flowers, and marshmallow fondant.

The pineapple flowers were delicious, and the marshmallow fondant was far too sweet (next time I'm going to try mixing some rice flour into it) but they both pleased me!

chocolate trees

I made a cake for my mummy's birthday that I was proud of:

I was inspired by the look of this cake, so I made some chocolate trees, and then once I started I couldn't stop decorating. I think another time I'd like to make a winter scene on top with a thin jello layer for an ice rink or frozen pond.

It tasted good too. Lots of citrus and ginger and whipping cream. Light and decadent.

Three days of cake for breakfast!

So I made another cake. It's an imperfect cake, but it had potential. I wanted to make a vertical stripe cake, but I ran out of egg whites, so the stripes aren't very tall.

Beginning to assemble the first stripes, slathering them in nutella mixed with a little yogurt to glue them together:
I made a jello layer for the top. It was my favourite part. I used cranberry juice and white wine. DEEELICIIOOUS. Those are cut up strawberries in it:
The jello was a bit big for the cake and looked pretty but slid off round the edges:

I think this had the makings of two fabulous cakes. One, a vertical striped carrot cake glued together and decorated with cream cheese and chocolate icing. The second, a lemon-ginger sponge cake with whipped cream and jello layers with a smaller jello window on top and decorated with whipped cream and fruit on the sides.

An illustrated Manuscript

I like my silly coloured toes (thank you Nanermellon);

The balloons I got for Rafiki to celebrate the end of the school year danced on the rising heat;

Jaja was singing the Kellogg's Raisin Bran tag line "2 cups of raisins in Kellogg's raisin bran" when she stopped, snorted, and said sarcastically, "Real food in food? It must be health food!"

Which made me laugh.

I went for a walk with Kryptonite when the wind was blowing strong and the waves were exhilarating and beautiful;

(the waves created ponds all the way up the beach.

I made a second cake! It was for Rafiki's mummy's birthday. Banana sponge cake with lemon whipping cream and strawberry layers; and lots and lots of strawberries, whipping cream, and a little rum chocolate icing on top. Rafiki put on all the strawberries except the centre flower. He did a mighty fine job.

We went out for dinner and I met his Dad for the second time (the first time longer than 2 minutes). He tells funny stories. I want to hear them all twice so I can do them some justice in a retelling.

I made a cake!
After spending all my study breaks looking at cakes for weeks, now that I have free time I was inspired to make one. It's chocolate-carrot sponge cake and lemon sponge cake with rum-chocolate icing on lemon whipped cream.

I'm very proud of it.

In other news, Rafiki and I spent the morning giggling in bed because the garbage truck on my street made noises like a cat meowing when it squeaked.
